Croupy Baby on the Mend
I am every so ready to kick January to the curb. I welcome February with the ardor of a lover kept away too long.
For one thing, we have had way more freeze-your-boogers cold than usual. Normally Boise gets a brief spell of freezing temperatures and bit of snow here and there, but it rarely lasts long at all. This year the ground has stayed frozen and white for weeks. We've endured several weeks of "inversion" of cold air that has been trapped to the ground by a blanket of warm air on top. I hear it has been nice in the mountains, but down in the Treasure Valley it has been pea soup skies and too much cold for my blood.
Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I had been able to get out to play in the snow a bit more. But that wasn't in the cards for me this season. I came down with a nasty case of bronchitis that put me down for about 10 days with racking cough, barely able to breath. I'm feeling much better now and am getting back to my usual perky self. I still sound a bit like a croupy baby with a lingering cough that just doesn't want to quit, but at least I can breathe now and my energy level is back up.
I was very blessed that the whole time I was sick my sweet husband took excellent care of me. I truly am in awe of that man. His kindness and concern while tending to my every need were really sweet. I am a lucky lady indeed to have him in my life.
So now the new year is rolling forward with February bursting forth with bright blue skies and the snow beginning to melt. I'm so ready for spring I can barely stand it. I went to the store and bought a bunch of tulips just to remind myself that the growing season will soon come. We are not done with winter yet, but I feel like we are over the hump.
